The City has approved its first draft Environmental Sustainability Plan (ESP). This plan will incorporate the City’s environmental goals, objectives and actions into one overarching strategy that will provide a clear and flexible framework to help guide future decisions, ensuring the long-term resiliency and sustainability of our community.

Development of the ESP

The ESP was developed through comprehensive research and analysis, as well as through extensive public engagement, over a four-phase process that began in spring 2019. In total, through the entire project development, the team had more than 1,600 survey responses, more than 4,500 comments and 35 pop-up, in-person or virtual engagement opportunities. Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback on this important project.

Coquitlam's Draft Environmental Sustainability Plan

About Coquitlam’s Environmental Sustainability Plan (ESP)

Coquitlam’s first environmental strategy, the Environmental Sustainability Plan, or ESP, was drafted after receiving input from the community, key stakeholder groups, and related research. It sets out the City’s various environmental goals, objectives and supporting policies, to guide future decisions that ensure the long term resiliency and sustainability of the community.

How We Built the Draft ESP

To build the draft ESP, we incorporated input from the first phase of engagement with the community and stakeholders, research, and staff and consultant expertise to identify high-level goals, broad strategies, and detailed actions supporting each of the five themes (Climate Action, Built Environment, Waste Management, Water Management and Natural Areas, Wildlife and Habitat).

We Want to Hear From You

We are now asking for feedback from the public, external stakeholders and focus groups to ensure that the draft ESP reflects the community’s priorities for environmental sustainability through its goals, strategies and actions.

Before taking the survey, be sure to review the goals, strategies and actions in one or more of the following:
