What's Happening Now?

Burke Mountain Community Centre is officially under construction! Mayor and Council were joined by project partners and staff on Tuesday, May 12 for the milestone celebration. Once complete, the facility will serve as a vibrant hub for recreation, learning and community connection, designed to meet both current and future needs of a growing community.

Nestled into the mountainside, Burke Mountain Community Centre will include:

  • A six-lane lap pool, leisure pool with lazy river and two lap lanes, hot pool, steam room, sauna, climbing wall and drop slide
  • A double gymnasium for sports and active play
  • A fully equipped fitness centre with weight room and studio space
  • Flexible, multi-purpose rooms for programs, meetings and events
  • A new branch of the Coquitlam Public Library inside the facility, with a curated collection designed around the local community

Located beside the community centre, Burke Village Park will be an outdoor extension of the facility and will include:

  • A splash pad with interactive ground jets
  • Open spaces with flexible seating options to gather and connect
  • An elevated, accessible pathway bringing visitors into the mountainside park
  • Dedicated Streamside Protection and Enhancement Area (SPEA) for natural watercourses

Construction is now underway. Both the facility and the park are expected to open in 2029.

About the Project

The City of Coquitlam’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan has identified a need for a comprehensive, multi-use recreation centre to support the growing neighbourhood of Burke Mountain. The City of Coquitlam is planning a new community centre that will meet the needs of current and future residents of the growing Northeast Coquitlam community — as well as residents across the community — with amenities including a pool, library, gymnasiums and a fitness centre. The final design of the community centre will informed by the feedback collected from engagement in earlier phases to ensure the needs, interests, values and aspirations of the community are reflected.
