What’s Happening Now

Phase One improvements are moving forward with construction set to begin summer 2026. Design of the Phase Two improvements will start later this year, with construction planned for 2028.

On Monday, June 1, 2026, Council approved the final plans for Phase One improvements at Glen Park. The plan was updated based on public engagement feedback, along with an analysis of existing neighbourhood amenities and conversations with School District 43, to create an updated vision that balances current needs and uses.

Phase One Improvements (2026)
  • Relocated Dog Off-Leash Area: Relocated to the west side of the park with separate areas for small and large dogs, seating, agility features and shade. Moved up from Phase Two in the original design, lighting and drinking water will also be added to the dog off-leash area to support year-round use. The existing dog off-leash area will remain open until the new space is ready for play.
  • Forest-inspired Nature Play Zone: Tucked into the forested area next to Glen Elementary in the northeast corner of the park, natural elements like logs, boulders and tree stumps will provide outdoor learning space and opportunities for creative play. Shared with School District 43, the space will be open to the public with priority for students during school hours.
  • Initial Trail Improvements: Realigned and widened trails in the north end of the park to improve access to new amenities.
Phase Two Improvements (2028)
  • Accessible Washrooms: Centrally located near the playground.
  • Water Play Zone: Interactive spray deck for all-ages play and summer cooling.
  • Social Hub and Picnic Enhancements: New standalone covered picnic shelters near the washroom and water play zone, with additional picnic areas and social gathering spaces placed throughout the park. The existing plaza and picnic areas will be retained, and the plaza expanded.
  • Trail Updates: Accessibility updates throughout the park, including paved primary asphalt pathways to all major amenities.

About the Project

The City of Coquitlam is working towards the next phase of improvements for Glen Park.

Glen Park is a 6.7 hectare (16.7 acre) park located in the City Centre neighbourhood. More than half of City Centre residents live within a 10-minute walk of Glen Park, including nearly 3,000 children.

Guided by the Glen Park Master Plan, which was adopted in 2011, earlier improvements to the park include a fenced off-leash dog area, a picnic area, a plaza and playground along Pipeline Road and the creation of a passive lawn area, known as the Great Lawn.

This next phase of improvements (previously referred to as Master Plan Phase 3) will be informed in part by public engagement conducted in fall 2023. The improvements will be balanced with technical studies (including arborist and geotechnical reports), preservation of the existing natural character, available budget and other approved City plans including the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan.
