The Southwest Housing Review (SWHR) is a multi-year planning effort to support the provision of more diverse housing options in Southwest Coquitlam. The project consists of four streams of work, which are:

  • A review of neighbourhood pockets where residents have come forward requesting a review of the land use designation of their neighbourhood;
  • Creation of a Corridor Development Strategy (CDS) for key arterial streets;
  • A review of the potential expansion of the recently updated Housing Choices Program into other areas of Southwest Coquitlam; and
  • A review of infill housing options in single-family areas to further address the policy directions in the Southwest Coquitlam Area Plan.

Latest News

On May 30, 2022, Council approved the amendments to the Citywide Official Community Plan (CWOCP) and Zoning Bylaw, for the Guilby-Grayson, Miller-Grant and Whiting-Appian neighbourhood pockets in the Burquitlam-Lougheed neighbourhood. The land use concepts for the three neighbourhood pockets evolved over the last two years, through technical analysis, Council feedback, community consultation and input from an inter-departmental City staff review team.

The amendments update the Burquitlam Lougheed Neighbourhood Plan (BLNP), providing new opportunities for multi-family housing that are compatible with the surrounding land uses, and in line with the broader vision for the BLNP of creating compact, complete and transit-oriented communities.

This concludes Phase 2 of the SWHR. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback throughout the process. For more information, please visit the Neighbourhood Pockets webpage.

Next Steps

Future phases of the SWHR will include the creation of a Corridor Development Strategy (CDS) for key arterial streets in Southwest Coquitlam, as well as a review of the City’s Housing Choices Program, including a potential expansion of the program into other areas of Southwest Coquitlam.
